Abstract

954,158. Ratchet clutches. S. S. S. GEARS Ltd. March 20, 1963 [March 26, 1962], No. 11523/62. Addition to 912,020. Heading F2C. The synchro-self-shifting clutch described in the parent Specification is modified by mounting the sets of both primary and secondary ratchet pawls on the same clutch element. As shown, the primary pawls 7 and the secondary pawls 8 are mounted alternately in transverse alignment around the splined intermediate sleeve 5 and engage internal teeth 11 on the first clutch element 1. In a modified arrangement, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the pawls are mounted on the first element 1 and engage external teeth on the intermediate sleeve 5, stops 13 being provided to limit outward movement of the pawls.
