Abstract

<PICT:0953609/C3/1> <PICT:0953609/C3/2> Skins or hides 11 draped over a horse 10 are transferred one at a time to the feed roller 12a of a "double-acting" (i.e. both sides of skin processed simultaneously) processing machine and thereafter transferred to a horse 13, by a transfer means comprising an arm 14, or intermittently moving conveyer provided with spaced pick-up elements 15, 16 having suction cups 15a, 16a (or clips, hooks, forks &c.), the arm 14 being reciprocated mechanically or electrically between the two positions, Figs. 1 and 3, in timed relationship with the operation of the machine 12, the latter incorporating a sensing device 30 for this purpose. The horse 13 may be substituted by a drying machine having skin supporting poles whose movement is synchronized with the transfer means. By providing a further pick-up element the transfer means may be used to pass skins through two single-acting machines arranged in series. In all cases the movement of the skins is effected in line with the longitudinal axis of the feed roller(s) of the processing machine(s).
