Abstract

953,514. Stethoscopes. D. LITTMANN, and G. F. MACHLUP, [trading as CARDIOSONICS MEDICAL INSTRUMENT CO.]. Sept. 4, 1962, No. 33850/62. Heading A5R. In a stethoscope the ear tubes 1, 2, Fig. 2, are of metal and are urged towards each other, to grip the ears, by being attached to clips at the ends of a semi-circular, flat spring 3 located within a flexible, tubular T-piece 16, 17. The latter is formed in one piece with the receiver tube 4 and the actual junction may be reinforced by a helical spring 50. The lower end of the tube 4 is attached to a hollow plug member 20, Fig. 4, which is rotatable within the receiver body so that a lateral hole 25 may selectively communicate either with a bellshaped receiver 21 or with a diaphragm receiver 22. The rotatable member 20 is located in either of its operative positions by a spring wire loop 41 which engages in recesses in the body.
