Abstract
953,360. Determining physical dimensions. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 24, 1961 [March 4, 1960], No. 7794/60. Heading G1N. [Also in Division G4] An input voltage V 1 corresponding to 1/k-x is converted to an output mean current I m through a meter M corresponding to x by the transistor circuit shown. The arrangement is such that with the polarity of the A.C. from a transformer TR as shown transistor T 5 is cut off, current will flow from transistor T 4 and through rectifier x 2 to the collector of T 1 so that C charges up to a reference voltage V 2 . T 5 now conducts and a constant current Ic flows through resistor R 2 , T 2 and meter M. The current ceases at the end of each half cycle due to reversal of the polarity of the A.C. and capacitor C is short circuited by T 3 and discharged. A mathematical proof is included in the Specification. One application of the invention is in conjunction with the electric gauging apparatus of Specification 904, 689, which relates to measuring the gap between two magnetic elements. The output voltage of such apparatus is in the form of a voltage proportional to the reciprocal of the gap and the present circuit can be used to convert such voltage to one proportional to the gap.
