Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of general formula: <FORM:0953005/C2/1> in which R1 represents fluorine, bromine, hydroxy, amino, nitro, methylthio or acetylamino; and their acid addition salts; and their preparation (except when R1 is amino) by reacting a compound of formula: <FORM:0953005/C2/2> in which X represents halogen with a compound of formula: <FORM:0953005/C2/3> in the presence of an alkaline agent capable of combining with the hydrohalic acid liberated in the reaction; and preparation of the amino compound from the above-produced nitrocompound by catatytic hydrogenation in the presence of platinum oxide and of the acetylamino compound by subsequent acetylation. N-(2-fluorophenyl)-piperazine is prepared by heating the hydrochlorides of o -fluoroaniline and diethanolamine. Therapeutic compositions comprise the above piperazines and salts with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers or diluents. Oral, rectal and parenteral administration using solid and liquid vehicles is mentioned. The compounds are central depressants, hypotensors, anticonvulsives and barbiturate potentiators.
