A mounting box of PVC, resin bonded glass fibre, or like insulating material for an electricity meter (Figs. 1, 2, 3) has a circular upper chamber 12 and a rectangular lower chamber 13 and is screwable to a wall through holes 14. A cover 15 of the lower chamber has an upper arcuate flange 15a completing a circular flange 11a of the upper chamber to support a circular housing 16 for meter 17 comprising a flanged supporting backplate 30 and a transparent or windowed cover 31 with a base flange 31a abutting flange 30a of the back plate, which carries blades 32 and a cartridge fuse 33 in the live line or alternatively in the neutral line to the current coil. Fuses may also be provided in both lines. The blades engage sockets 23a to 23d in the upper chamber, which are connectible to line and load cables over screw terminals 22a to 22d through a detachable slotted cover 25, and other consumers wiring may also be led in through grommets 26. Line cables 18 enter the lower chamber through gland 19 and from thence enter the upper chamber, and load cables 20 similarly emerge through protector 21; the lower chamber (which may be divided into two) being sealed e.g. by filling with bitumastic compound. A gapped metal channel ring 34 is clamped over flanges 30a, 31a by lugs 34a and screw 35 which is then sealed to prevent tampering, while gapped channel ring 36 is similarly employed to clamp the meter housing to the terminal box. Alternatively plural sealed screws may be used. A rigid strip 37 fits over the lower part of the cover 15 of the lower chamber and embraces lugs 38 of the casing, while strip 39 perpendicular to 37 embraces the centre of the cover and is locked into slot 15b of the arcuate flange 15a by ring 36. In a modification (Figs.4, 5 not shown) a cylindrical casing defines the upper chamber and is apertured to receive a cable box defining the lower chamber into which load and line cables are sealed by compound. The upper end of the cable box is secured within the cylindrical casing by screws which are covered when the meter is fitted; the inter-engaging walls of the casings being flanged and stepped to discourage the entrance of water.
