952,537. Hand sanding tools. W. LIDSTER. Feb. 5, 1963 [Feb. 13, 1962], No. 5434/62. Heading B3D. A hand sander comprising an elongated body with a closed top and substantially parallel sides and ends 3 and a detachable base 5 covered with a soft pad 6 is provided with upstanding wings 7 on the base to fit against the ends of the body and openings 8, 9 in the wings and ends of the body are arranged to receive a spindle 10 for holding a roll of abrasive material. Abrasive material from the roll is drawn through a slot 4 at one side of the body, passed underneath the pad 6 and then gripped along the opposite side of the body; used material is cut off by a severing edge 16 at one side of the base 5. If desired, the openings 8, 9 in the body and wings 7 may be in the form of slots to engage in grooves in the ends of the spindle 10.
