Abstract

951,918. Making cartons. REED CARTONS Ltd., and O. G. MONTANDON. Jan. 24, 1963 [Jan. 25, 1962], No. 3091/63. Heading B5D. [Also in Division B8] A box with a self-erecting bottom (see Division B8) is made from the blank of Fig. 1 by sticking the flap 5 to panel 1, placing the blank on a core in the shape of a parallelogram and moving this past the bottom forming stations in the direction shown in Fig. 3. The flaps 6, 7 are folded by a manually operated device with an alternating or rotating movement and the glue spots 17, 18 are simultaneously applied. The panels 8, 9 are folded by fixed folding rails slightly displaced from one another and are pushed to the interior of the box until they no longer overlap (Fig. 5), by a device having a reciprocating movement. The core is subsequently removed and the box flattened by closing the acute angles. The cores may be interchangeable or adjustable for different shaped boxes.
