A calculating device of the abacus type comprises rows of pivoted members each having two differently formed or marked portions 1, 5 so arranged that either one or the other is in an indicating position. As shown, the members are pivoted in removable boxes 6 arranged on a stepped frame. The members may be pivoted alternately in front of and behind a removable panel 4 extending along the centre of each box 6, or they may be shaped as shown in Fig. 11 and arranged in the same plane.
