950,800. Straps and bands. SUDDEUTSCHE KABELWERKE ZWEIGNIEDERLASSUNG DER VEREINIGTE DEUTSCHE METALLWERKE A.G. July 3, 1962 [July 13, 1961; Feb. 20, 1962 (2); June 19, 1962], No. 25513/62. Drawings to Specification. Heading A4X. [Also in Divisions B5, F2 and H1] A tape for electrical or thermal insulation comprises a foamed foil e.g. of polystyrene, longitudinally folded and having its open edge sealed by a weld seam. It may be folded only once, or both edges may be brought to the centre and then the tape folded again. One or more reinforcing threads e.g. of glass silk may be inserted prior to folding and they may be adhesively secured. The welded edge may be rolled to remove brittleness. The tape may be indented along the fold lines to assist folding especially if its thickness exceeds 0.5 mm. A coaxial cable comprises inner and outer conductors with twelve layers of 4-ply tape forming the insulation. The tape may be used for lagging pipes.
