Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula: <FORM:0950714/C2/1> (wherein at least one R is a halogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxy radical, R1 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aryl radical, R11 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or aralkyl radical, R111 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical and the benzene nucleus A may contain alkoxy groups or halogen atoms) and their preparation by acylating the appropriate anthranilic acid anilide with the carboxylic acid R1.COOH or a functional derivative thereof, or by condensing a functional derivative of an appropriate acyl anthranilic acid with a suitable substituted arylamine. Examples are given. The acyl anthranilic acid anilides of the invention, which are stated to have a sedative and/or anticonvulsive action, and some of which are stated also to show a narcosis prolonging action and some antipyretic activity, may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions with suitable carriers.
