Abstract

Veterinary preparations for the treatment or prevention of coccidiosis comprises 2-chloro-4-nitrobenzamide and a physiologically innocuous carrier. Optional additions are (a) other coccidiostats such as 2-sulphanilamidoquin-oxaline and (b) growth or egg production pro-motors such as penicillin and 4-hydroxy-3-nitrophenyl-arsenic acid. The carrier may be solid, semi-solid or liquid and may be drinking water or an animal foodstuff, e.g. starting, laying or growing mash for poultry feed. Such feeds contain 0.001 to 0.1 and preferably 0.005 to 0.05% of the 2-chloro-4-nitrobenzamide. Concentrates for addition to poultry feed may contain 1 to 90% of the active ingredient. Such concentrates may be prepared with a liquid carrier such as water or a solid carrier such as kaolin and chalk together, if desired, with a wetting, dispersing or emulsifying agent such as sodium lauryl sulphate and polyethylene (20) sorbitan monooleate.
