Abstract
949,018. Electric motors. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. July 30, 1962, No. 29225/62. Heading H2A. [Also in Division F2] In a driving machine, e.g. an electric motor, having an electromagnetically-operated disc or cone brake connected to the output shaft, rolling bodies guided by means of a cage or suitable shaping of the friction surfaces are arranged between the co-operating friction surface of the brake discs or cones. As shown in Fig. 1, the brake body 7 having discs 20 splined thereto is mounted fast on the shaft 2 of the electric motor 1. Discs 21 are splined to the casing 4 which has secured thereto a magnet coil 6 which is energized at the same time as the motor to pull the armature 16 to the magnet body 5 to release the brake, the latter being applied on de-energization of the magnet by springs 17. A fan 10 is also secured fast to the shaft 2 to draw cooling air through apertures 24 and 9 to pass between the discs 20, 21 and to be delivered to the cooling ribs 3 of the motor. The fan is provided with a free-wheel device 14 so that the fan can run out slowly during braking due to to its kinematic energy. Rollers 23 guided in a cage 22 are disposed between the discs 20, 21. The rollers 23 may be disposed radially, substantially parallel to one another, or with their axes at identical angles other than 90 degrees with respect to the direction of movement of the revolving brake parts. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, rollers 49 are disposed between the brake body 45 and the arm 44 and are guided by recesses in the friction surfaces. The brake is applied by the magnet 41 and released by springs 43. Cooling air is drawn in through aperture 37 and 48 by a fan 46. The rollers may be cylindrical, barrel-shaped, or constructed with their outer surface conical.
