Abstract

948,955. Melt spinning hollow plastic filaments. MONSANTO CHEMICAL CO. Sept. 11, 1961 [Sept. 26, 1960], No. 32552/61. Heading B5B. A thermoplastic melt is forced through spinneret plate 3 to form the hollow filament. The hole 4 has two portions of different diameters and inserted in the smaller bottom portion in force fitted relationship is, metal insert 7 which engages the periphery at three points at least. The molten streams of subdivided polymer tend to coalesce to form a coherent stream which solidifies to form a hollow filament. Various shapes of inserts are illustrated in Figures (not shown).
