Abstract

948,711. Cores for wound tapes. NORTON CO. May 31, 1962 [June 30, 1961], No. 21055/62. Heading B8M. A roll of pressure-sensitive adhesive tape comprises an annular supporting core, with a periphery having areas of different elevation, and a plurality of convolutions of the tape, with the first convolution entirely in contact with the periphery and conforming to the different areas of elevation while the remaining convolutions conform to the first convolution. The edges 13 of the periphery 12 may be tapered, preferably at an angle of half degree. Alternatively, there may be a plurality of wedge-shaped sections, preferably mounted 0.0015 in. above the normal surface, with their bases touching along the centre line of the periphery and their apices terminating in spaced relationship, alternatively, on either edge. The core may be of plastic or pressed paper. It is stated that this construction will prevent telescoping of the convolutions of the tape. Specification 755,261 is referred to.
