Abstract

<PICT:0947515/C3/1> In filtering and hopping brewers' wort, the wort is passed through a first quiescent bed of hops which has previously had wort passed through it, and is then passed through a second quiescent bed of fresh hops. Preferably, after the bed of fresh hops has become vitiated, the wort flow is switched to flow first through this vitiated bed and then through a third quiescent bed of fresh hops. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement in which three hop extraction vessels 12, 13 and 14, are used with control valves enabling any one of the vessels to be used as the primary hop extraction vessel and the others to be used, after being employed for the primary hop extraction, respectively for filtering and re-charging with fresh hops.
