Abstract

<PICT:0947367/C3/1> Foamed polystyrene sheet has a plurality of indentations, wherein the upper and lower surfaces each comprise a plurality of protuberances and depressions of similar shape, the bottom wall of each depression in one surface constituting the top wall of a protuberance on the other surface and wherein the bottom wall of a depression in one surface and the top wall of an adjacent protuburance on the same surface are separated and connected by supporting walls which slope across the meridianal plane of the sheet. The protuberances can be formed by passing heated sheet through embossing rolls. In one embodiment supporting walls 151 and 161 form protuberances and depressions (square in form) tapering towards a top wall 171. In another embodiment the indentations and protuberances are cup-like in form. The polystyrene sheet may be formed from beads containing pentane and coated with sodium bicarbonate and citric acid.
