Abstract
946,152. Closet seats. LADY W. M. HAMILTON. Aug. 20, 1962 [July 20, 1961], No. 26251/61. Heading E1C. [Also in Division A4] An aseptic device for supporting the weight of a human body comprises an annular resilient spongy member enclosed in an annular resilient bacteria-impervious plastics envelope, the peripheral edge or edges of which are joined together by means which render it, or them, impervious to bacteria. In one form shown (Fig. 5) the envelope 2b comprises two annular flexible members joined at their edges 5b, 6b and completely encloses the spongy member 4b. The envelope 2, 3 (Fig. 2) may enclose a rigid annular member 1, the spongy member 4 being applied to one major surface only thereof. The device may comprise a cushion or it may comprise the seat for a sanitary appliance, e.g. a sanitary closet pan, (as in Fig. 3 or otherwise) commode, bedpan or bidet. The spongy member may be of foamed plastics or latex material. The envelope may be formed from plasticized, thermoplastic material and the edge or edges thereof may be joined together by infra-red or like high-frequency fusion welding.
