Abstract

The invention comprises 1, 2, 5, 6-tetra-C1-5-alkanesulphonyl hexitols, their hydrates and the preparation thereof by reacting hexitols acetalized or diacylated on the hydroxyl groups in the 3 and 4 position with reactive derivatives of alkane sulphonic acids and then removing the acetal or diacyl groups from the 3 and 4 positions of the molecule by using acids or in the case of benzal or substituted benzal groups by reduction. Pharmaceutical compositions which show cystostatic activity, contain the above sulphonic acid esters in the form of intravenous injections and tablets.
