Abstract
945,891. Coin-freed vending apparatus. A. REID, and A. E. FOSTER. Dec. 27, 1961 [Jan. 16, 1961], No. 1659/61. Heading G4V. A machine for vending pre-cooked frozen foods in foil packages has two refrigerated storage compartments between which is an infra-red grill and, on insertion of a coin in one of the two coin slots corresponding to the two compartments, a motor drives a cam-shaft which controls the delivery of a package into the grill and then, after it has been heated for the required time, into a delivery shoot. A coin inserted past a pair of spring-loaded plates c<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 6, in the coin slot falls down a shoot d<SP>1</SP> and tilts a lever f<SP>1</SP> so that a mercury switch is tripped and the cam-shaft motor is switched on. A cam surface h<SP>1</SP> on the lever shifts a spring- loaded rod so that it enters a hole g<SP>1</SP> in the lever f<SP>1</SP> of the other coin slot and prevents operation of the other half of the machine and a catch lever t<SP>1</SP> holds the lever f<SP>1</SP> in operative position after the coin has fallen to a cash box. The cam-shaft has a pair of spaced cams f<SP>2</SP>, g<SP>2</SP>, Fig. 9, engaging a pair of switches i<SP>21</SP> and the cam f<SP>2</SP> causes its switch i<SP>21 </SP>to activate a solenoid k<SP>3</SP>, Fig. 11, and the solenoid armature i<SP>3</SP> moves a pusher plate n<SP>3</SP> along a slotted plate m<SP>3</SP> at the foot of the storage compartments and delivers the lowermost package into the grill. The next uppermost package, in falling, tilts the pusher n<SP>3</SP> about its pivot b<SP>3</SP> against the action of a spring d<SP>3</SP> and the pusher returns to its initial position along the underside of the slotted plate. The other cam g<SP>2</SP> then closes the other switch i<SP>2</SP> to activate the grill and holds it closed for a time sufficient to heat the contents of the package. The first cam f<SP>2</SP> finally operates its switch i<SP>2</SP> again and a solenoid is energized to swing a hinged arm through the grill and deliver the heated package to a delivery shoot. The cam f<SP>2</SP> also operates a trip wire u<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 6, to release the catch t<SP>1</SP> and allow the switch, lever f<SP>1</SP> to return to initial position. Each solenoid is connected to a pneumatic dashpot having an adjustable needle valve.
