Abstract

Dried spores of an inclusion-forming species of B. cereus, i.e those producing the so-called crystalline inclusion bodies under suitable fermentation conditions, e.g. B. thuringiensis, are sterilized by subjecting them to high-velocity electrons, e.g., beta-, or gamma-rays emitted by X-ray generators, resonant transformers, linear accelerators, nuclear reactors and fission products. A Van de Graaf electron accelerator may be used. The sterilized spores may be used as insecticides (see Division A5).ALSO:Dried spores of an inclusion-forming species of Bacillus cereus i.e. those producing the so-called crystalline inclusion bodies under suitable fermentation conditions e.g. Bacillus thuringiensis are subjected to high-velocity electrons e.g. beta or gamma rays emitted by X-ray generators, resonant transformers, linear accelerators, nuclear reactors and fission products, to produce sterilized spores. The sterilized spores may be used as active ingredient for insecticidal compositions which may also have incorporated other insecticides and/or fungicidally active compounds e.g. such as pyrethrum, derris resins, rotenone, DDT, hexachlorocyclohexane, nicotine, lime sulphur, Bordeaux mixture, sulphur, fluosilicates, arsenates, copper salts, lead salts, thiocyano esters together also with wetting and/or spreading agents.
