Abstract

945,693. Photographic tell-tale cameras; timed control of electric circuits. AGFA A.G. Sept. 6, 1960 [Sept. 8, 1959], No. 30762/60. Headings G2A and G3T. [Also in Divisions G4 and H3] A vehicle which passes a traffic signal while it is showing amber or red actuates a camera which photographs the vehicle and also the reading of a timer which is started by the change-over of the signal to amber or to red, respectively. The camera 9 (Fig. 1) is arranged at a convenient distance from a set of traffic lights 4 and during the amber, red, and red amber phases, any vehicle which crosses the road pad 8 is photographed while the dial of a clock 10 started at the beginning of the amber phase or at a predetermined interval thereafter, is simultaneously recorded, a second photograph being taken after a fixed time interval. When the amber light is shown relay 28 (Fig. 4) comes up thus starting the clock by energizing electromagnet 34 and a short circuit across condenser 39 is removed. When condenser 39 has charged up, thyratron 36 fires and relay 43 opers ates, so cutting off thyratron 36 and opening the charging circuit for condenser 39. Until now a vehicle crossing the pad 8 and so operating switch 42 has had no effect, but now relay 44 can operate and in so doing, energizes electromagnet 32 for operating the camera shutter, and brings up relay 45. Consequently 44 is released, condenser 39 is charged over resistor 41 and when thyratron 36 fires relay 46 comes up. Re-energization of electromagnet 32 causes a further photograph to be taken, relay 45 and hence relay 46 release but because contacts 45b operate with delay electromagnet 35, which resets the hands of the clock to zero, is not energized. The circuit is now set for recording the next infringer. During the red cycle relay 30 operates, maintaining relay 43 and hence electromagnet 34 and allowing condenser 52 to charge up. Photographing of an infringer now proceeds as before and also when relays 28 and 30 are both operated (red-amber phase). At the green phase, relays 28, 30 and 43 release but momentarily 46 comes up, due to the stored charge on condenser 52, so that electromagnet 35 can energize and so reset the clock hands to zero.
