Abstract

945,592. Earth-moving scraper bowls. H. S. POTGIETER. July 30, 1962 [Aug. 7, 1961; Oct. 25, 1961 ], No. 29243/62. Hearing E1F. In towed, earthmoving scraper bowl equipment two or more forwardly facing scraper bowls are pivotally positioned one behind the other, each bowl being supported from a transverse axis from a towed, ground-supported frame. Each bowl is provided with a digging lip and with an ejector plate. Power for vertically swinging the bowls and for reciprocating the ejector plates is obtained from the towing vehicle. In one embodiment a full width bowl 14 precedes two half width bowls 16, whilst in another embodiment two full width bowls are in series. The tailgates such as 22, 23 are rigidly coupled by beam members such as 27 so that a single drive, e.g. hydraulic jack 25 or a winch-operated cable system acts on the beam members to control reciprocation of the tailgates within the bowls to cause discharge of the contents therefrom.
