Abstract

945,400. Endless-track vehicles. S.r.1. SCOMA & C. May 17, 1961 [May 17, 1960], No. 17982/61. Heading B7H. [Also in Division E1] An excavating machine has two endless tracks 1 between which is mounted a substantially L-shaped frame 35 and a scoop 5 movable over the frame, and at all times within parallel planes extending from the outer edges of the tracks, from a digging position to a discharge position. The vehicle has a superstructure 2 on which are mounted, by means of supports 3, arms 4 connected at their ends to the scoop 5. Attached to a transverse shaft 6, which is rigidly attached to arms 4, is one end of a chain 7, whose other end is attached to a winch 8 which is driven by the motor 9 through gear-wheels 10 to 14 mounted in a casing 81. Two shock absorbers 15 are provided to limit the movement of arms 4 when the scoop is raised to the position shown, in Fig. 1, in dotted lines. Disposed at the rear end of the superstructure 2 is a bin 16 which pivots about bearing 17 connected by supports 18 to the superstructure. Ribs 19 which connect bearing 17 to bin 16 are pivotally connected at 20a to two rams 20 whose other ends are pivotally attached to lugs 21 on the vehicle frame. The rear cover 22 of bin 16 is pivotally mounted at 25 and is controlled by a lever 22a articulated to lever 23 which is pivoted at 24 to the structure 2. The arrangement is such that the scoop 5 is raised and deposits the material therein into bin 16 which is then rotated about bearing 17 to the position shown in dotted lines, during which motion, cover 22 is opened under the action of levers 22a, 23. At this point the bin will discharge its contents into a truck 27. Two compressed-air motors 36, 37 mounted on the L-shaped frame 35 are used to drive the endless tracks. Motor 36 drives the right-hand track through pinion 38a and gear-wheels 40, 43, 44, 46, 48, 51, 54, 55, 58 while motor 37 drives the left-hand track through pinion 61 and gear-wheels 63, 64, 65, 66, 69, 70, 73. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), a bin is not provided, but the scoop is so mounted that when it is being raised it also travels to the rear of the structure from which position its contents may be deposited immediately into the truck.
