943,950. Cleaning hollow articles. F. DE LELLIS. April 16, 1962, No. 14669/62. Heading B8T. An expansible brushing device for cleaning the interiors of ingot moulds has a central body 1 with radial fins to each of which a brush support 5 or 5<SP>1</SP> is attached by a pair of parallel links 4 whereby the supports may move parallel with the central body axis. Each support 5 has dovetail recesses slidingly receiving the backs of brushes 7 which are held, e.g. by screw means, in the desired position. Each support 5<SP>1</SP>, at the corner of the central body, has dovetail ways receiving the backs of brushes 7<SP>1</SP> which are also secured in position. The central body includes a sheave 2 and a flat base 3, and when the device is lowered, e.g. by crane, into a vertically arranged mould the brushes, e.g. of steel wire, and their supports are raised; when the device is lifted the supports and brushes are moved outwardly by friction, assisted possibly by annular weights 8, 9, and the brushes are forced against the mould walls.
