Abstract

942,416. Lifejackets. BERNHARDT APPARATEBAU G.m.b.H. & CO. Sept. 21, 1961, No. 33832/61. Heading B7U. A lifejacket comprises two individually inflatable superposed float envelopes 4, 5, Fig. 1, each having a collar part 6 and two chest wings 7. The envelopes are removably secured to a U- shaped frame 1 by a loop 9 at the neck part through which the envelopes are threaded in the deflated state, and by straps 10 secured to the lower part of each wing which releasably engage buckles 11 mounted on two belts 12, Fig. 2, which are secured to the lower portions of the frame 1 at points lying close to the centre of the body of the wearer. Each envelope possesses sufficient buoyancy to keep the wearer afloat, and the upper inner edge of each wing 7 has a domed portion 8 to support the chin of the wearer when inflated. The envelopes are folded together in the deflated state and retained in folded position by covering flaps 16 and a neck flap (not shown), having co-operating press stud parts 17, 18 to form a closure which is automatically operable on inflation of the envelopes. The envelopes are individually inflatable by a compressed gas bottle 14 and oral inflation tube 15 and a crutch strap 13 passes from the neck of the frame 1 to a waist belt 3.
