Abstract
941,991. Motor vehicles. ENTERPRISE BOURDIN & CHAUSSE. Dec. 12, 1960 [Dec. 28, 1959], No. 42727/60. Heading B7H. A self propelled ground compacting machine having pneumatic tyred wheels at the front and rear in staggered relationship driven by hydraulic motors is characterized in that the suspensions of the front wheels are mechanically or hydraulically interconnected to form one front supporting group and the suspensions of the rear wheels are mechanically or hydraulically interconnected to form two rear supporting groups, thus giving three supporting groups for the entire machine, there being a mechanical or hydraulic interconnection between the rear groups. An internal combustion engine 2 drives a pump 3 which receives fluid from a reservoir 5, the pump driving motors 15 through a valve 7 controlled by a lever 8, the motors driving the wheels 23 through chains 16 and sprockets 17, shafts 18 and chains 21 and sprockets 20 and 22. The rear outer wheels 23 are mounted on casings 19 pivotally mounted on the shafts 18 and held in position by jacks 24, and the centre rear wheels 23a are carried by a casing 19 held in position by jacks 26, of smaller diameter, the jacks 24 and 26 being supplied with fluid from the pump through circuits 25, a distributing valve 27 being provided to equalize pressures arising from slopes or uneven surfaces. The front wheels are mounted in arms 38 pivoted to frame 39 and supported by jacks. 43. The frame 39 is pivoted at 40 to the machine frame and may be steered by a wheel 41. An air compressor 44 is driven by the engine and the tyres may be maintained at a given pressure through hub valves 50 under the control of a distributing valve 46. In a modification, Fig. 3, the frames 19 and frame 19a supporting the centre wheel are supported by cables 33, 32 attached to levers 29 mounted on vertical pivots 30, the cables 33 passing round pulleys 34. In a further modification, Figs. 4 and 5, the vehicle comprises front and rear parts 1a and 1b pivoted together at 51 and steered by hydraulic rams 52, the front and rear wheels 37 and 23 being mounted respectively in arms 54 and 53 pivoted to the vehicle frames at 56 and 55 and supported by hydraulic rams 43 and 24. The internal combustion engine 2, mounted in the fore part, drives pumps 3 which drive the motors 57 and 58 which are mounted in the hubs of the wheels.
