Abstract
941,786. Opening fibrous material. CROMPTON & KNOWLES CORPORATION. June 18,1962 [July 6, 1961], No. 23307/62. Heading D1N. A mass of fibrous material, such as may be in a compressed condition in consequence of liquid treatment under pressure, is broken up by the action of horizontally moving spiked members on the fibre mass as the latter is supported by a rotary platform. A platform 11 is rotated by a motor 14 and the spiked members or rakes 42 are reciprocated horizontally by crank arms 53 and crank wheels 52 driven from a motor 45. The teeth of the rakes 42 claw fibres from the mass in their forward movement and carry them over the edge of the mass to fall on the conveyer 17; on their return movement the teeth pivot upwards to ride over the fibre mass. The rakes and their driving mechanism are carried on a vertically movable frame 22 that is arranged to descend at a predetermined rate by bleeding off fluid from a hydraulic control cylinder.
