941,551. Ironing machines. W. JACK. Jan. 8,1960 [Oct. 8, 1958], No. 32095/58. Heading D1A. An ironing machine has a steam chest comprising interconnected plates 2, 4, the plate 2 having projecting hollow spigots 2A registering with perforations 5 in the plate 4. The space between the plates 2, 4 is connected to a steam supply, and the perforations 5 communicate with a suction source. The invention is applied to the machine described in Specification 856, 149. A band or tape 7 passing over guide rollers 8 guides articles to be ironed over the surface of the steam chests, spaced narrow tapes 9 and stripping fingers 10 facilitating passage from one chest to the other.
