Abstract

941,418. Chance apparatus. A. PAVESI. Aug. 5, 1961, No. 28523/61. Heading A6H. Electrical apparatus for playing a guessing game comprises a drum 2 mounted on a shaft 5 for rotation therewith, inside a casing 1, and inscribed around its periphery with five different symbols. One player selects a symbol and " sets " the apparatus accordingly, by depressing the handle 16 until the projection 17 engages the recess 4 on the drum, and then rotates the shaft until the symbol selected registers with an observation window 15 in the casing 1, simultaneously bringing a metal rod 12 into registration with one of five pairs of contacts 13 on the base of the casing. The handle 16 is then depressed further, against the action of spring 8, until the said rod bridges the gap between the contacts, thereby completing a circuit containing an electromagnetic fastening element 11 and a pilot lamp 20, whereupon the bolt 10 of the locking element is urged against spring pressure to engage in a recess between two collars 9 on the shaft 5, and the pilot lamp lights up. The apparatus is then " set " for the remaining players to try and guess the symbol chosen. Each player is confronted with a set of five push-buttons, each inscribed with a symbol corresponding to those on the drum 2, and each included in two circuits, one to the pilot lamp 20, locking unit 11 and a pair of contacts 13, and the other to one of five lamps 21, these latter lamps again being marked with symbols corresponding to those marked on the drum and on the push-buttons. The pushbuttons are normally spring-urged towards the position in which they close their respective circuits to the lamp 20 and locking unit 11, but when depressed break this circuit and complete that to the corresponding lamp 21. Thus the selection of a symbol on the drum 3 and the consequent setting of the apparatus decides which pair of contacts 13 and which pushbutton 23 is to be included in the circuit to the locking unit 11 and pilot lamp 20, and depression of this particular push-button results in the circuit to the lamp and locking unit being broken and that to the appropriate lamp 21 being completed instead. The pilot lamp is therefore extinguished, and the shaft 5 released. If any other push-button is depressed, the corresponding lamp 21 is illuminated, but no other change in the apparatus takes place. The apparatus is supplied with current via fuses 31, transformer 29 and switch 30. Score indicators 34 manually operated by knobs 35 are provided adjacent each playing position.
