Abstract

940,835. Circuits employing bi-stable magrietic elements. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Nov. 19, 1959 [Nov. 28, 1958], No. 23526/63. Divided out of 940,834. Heading H3B. In a magnetic storage device comprising a matrix of film elements 2 on an insulating sheet 1, there are two sets of drive conductors X and Y (Fig. 1) which cross with their overlying portion covering individual elements and one set of sense conductors 7 crossing the same elements as the respective Y drive conductors and perpendicular to the X drive conductors which are energized for reading. The film elements may be of 80% nickel and 20% iron deposited by evaporation or, electro-deposition &c. The insulating plate may be of glass, ceramic or plastic. In the Figure the direction of the easy axis of magnetization 3 of each element 2 is at an angle of between 20 degrees and 45 degrees with the field from drive conductors X, Y, these conductors being parallel at the crossing points. Each magnetic element may comprise two magnetic components and the support may be varnished to provide an electrically insulating, smooth, shiny, amorphous surface. The Provisional Specification refers to Specifications 907,090 and 937,741.
