Abstract

939,288. Delivering flat articles. EUREKA SPECIALTY PRINTING CO. March 14, 1962, No. 9751/62. Class 100 (1). Apparatus for receiving and stacking flat articles delivered successively thereto and removable as a group therefrom comprises a support, a rock-shaft journalled thereon, a first arm fixed to the shaft, a receiving platform pivotally mounted on the arm, a counterweight arm fixed to the rock-shaft, said arms extending, as regards the horizontal components of these directions, in opposite directions from the shaft, and means having a part connected to the platform at a fixed angle relative thereto and slidable along the support for controlling the position of the platform during movement of the first arm. Envelopes E, Fig. 1, from a labelling-machine are delivered by rollers 64, 66 to a stack D on a platform 27 having adjustable side plates 38 and rear plate 42. The driven roller 66, Figs. 1 and 7, is mounted on brackets 67 and comprises disc-shaped sections. The roller 64, Figs. 1 and 7, of absorbent sponge material, is removably mounted on links 61 pivoted to a block 60 mounted on a member 11 by means of locating pins and a magnetic bar, and rests on the roller 66 by gravity. The height of the brackets 67 is adjustable. Mounted on brackets 62 is a rock-shaft 23 to which are fixed arcuate arms 24 pivotally supporting the platform 27, which is rigid with a rod 31 pivoted to a roller 33 running vertically along a plate 21. Counterweights 57, 58 are axially adjustable along a rod 56 angularly adjustable on the shaft 23. The platform is set at a desired inclination and in alignment with the nip of the rollers 64, 66, and moves downwards under the weight of the envelopes, its inclination remaining constant owing to the rod 31. The weights and the rod 56 are adjusted so that the bottom and top of the plates 38 are aligned with the rollers at the top and bottom positions, respectively, of the platform. The movement of the platform in both directions is cushioned by two damping devices, one a pneumatic cylinder 78 pivotally connected to the shaft 23 and the roller 33, and the other a centrifugal brake acting between the shaft 23 and a fixed flange coaxial therewith through a gear train and a flywheel having centrifugally actuated balls acting to force brake shoes against the flange, the gear train giving the shaft 23 considerable mechanical advantage and the flywheel a high speed of rotation.
