Abstract

A rubber-like polymer is isolated from a solution thereof in an organic solvent by gradually introducing the solution into an excess of water heated to a temperature between 45 DEG C. and its boiling point in the presence of a finely divided water-insoluble solid material and a specified organic surface active emulsifying agent, distilling off the solvent and separating the resulting particles of the polymer material from the water. "Rubber-like polymers" are defined as a copolymer of ethylene, propylene and butadiene, polyisoprene, polybutylenes, polybutadienes and copolymers of butadiene with styrene or acrylonitrile and a factice. Specified organic surface active emulsifying agents are a hydroxyethylated alkyl phenol, hydroxyethylated stearic alcohol, dodecylbenzene sulphonic acid, an alkali metal salt of dodecylbenzene sulphonic acid, an alkylsulphonate, a condensation product from a fatty acid chloride with methyl taurine, dodecylaminoacetate, oleylaminoacetate, dodecylbenzyldimethyl ammonium chloride, octadecenyltrimethyl ammonium chloride, didodecyldimethyl ammonium chloride, triisobutylnaphthol, sorbitol monolaurate, oleyl alcohol, octyl alcohol, oleic acid, ricinoleic acid, a reaction product of an amide of a hydrogenated stearic fatty acid of 6-50 mols. ethylene oxide and the reaction product of coconut fatty acids and 2 mols. dialkanolamine. Specified finely dispersed solids are magnesium carbonate, aluminium hydroxide, aluminium oxide, barium sulphate silicon dioxide, silica gel, lead oxide, antimony oxide, zinc stearate, the zinc salt of 2-ethylhexylic acid, titanium dioxide, aluminium silicate, bleaching earth, bentonite or atapulgus clay. Specified organic solvents are hydrocarbons and halogen-hydrocarbons, a long list being given. Specifications 794,359, 799,392, 799,823, 801,031, 819,867 and 862,639 are referred to.
