Abstract

Apparatus for contacting finely divided solid particle material with gaseous material comprises an upper cylindrical reaction chamber in communication with a lower cylindrical regeneration chamber by means of at least one riser conduit and a standpipe, each of the chambers being adapted to contain a relatively dense bed of fluidized contact material therein and to have gaseous material removed from the upper positions thereof, means adjacent the bottom of the riser conduit for introducing gaseous reactant material thereto, a cylindrical stripping chamber in open communication with the lower portion of the reaction chamber, the standpipe extending downwardly from the stripping chamber to the lower portion of the regeneration chamber, the riser extending from the lower portion of the regeneration chamber into the intermediate portion of the reactor chamber and external to the stripping chamber, a plurality of vertically spaced and independently controllable means for introducing gaseous material to the stripping chamber, and a plurality of alternately spaced downwardly sloping conical and/or frustoconical baffle members in the stripping chamber, the uppermost conical baffle member being positioned in the bottom portion of the reactor chamber and the lowermost conical baffle member being positioned a substantial distance above the bottom of the stripping chamber to provide a disengaging compartment in the bottom portion of the stripping chamber. An embodiment of the apparatus is described with reference to its use for the continuous cracking of hydrocarbon oils.
