Abstract
937,049. Shock-absorbing air cushions. G. Q. PARACHUTE CO. Ltd. Nov. 7, 1961 [Oct. 7, 1960], No. 34450/60. Class 108(3). A shock-absorbing device for stores &c, dropped by parachute comprises at least one air-cushion disposed between a load carrying platform 1 and a skid-pan 2 and connecting means linking the platform and the skid-pan together to limit the extent to which, and control the manner in which, the platform 1 can swing out of vertical alignment with the skid-pan 2. As shown each of the four cylindrical air cushions 3-6 has an air vent to facilitate its gradual deflations, pairs of crossed steel cables, e.g. 10, 15, connecting together corresponding corners along each side of the device. The skid-pan 2 may be in the form of a dish having an upturned, canted rim instead of the block having a bevelled edge as shown. Specification 777,495 is referred to.
