Abstract
935,677. Laying railway sleepers. FILS D'AUGUSTE SCHEUCHZER S.A. Nov. 24, 1961 [Nov. 28, 1960; Nov. 17, 1961], No. 42195/61. Class 104(2) For laying sleepers on a railway track a machine displaceable along the track carries a sleeper support member 20 which is slidable in a fore-andaft direction along a beam 1, the beam being mounted on a shaft 13 pivotable about a substantially vertical axis in bearings 11, 12 in a frame 10. To move a sleeper from one side of the track to its position of use, the support 20 is moved, by means of a shaft 21 and handle 22, rearwardly along the beam 17, the beam is then pivoted through 90 degrees towards the side where the sleeper is located and the support is moved back to the forward end of the beam, the shaft 21 being guided in these movements by a T- shaped slot 9, Fig. 2, in the upper plate 1, 8 of the machine. A sleeper is then laid on the support and the reverse movements of support and beam are carried out until the sleeper is in position under the rails 5, 6. During the rotary movement the sleeper has been raised slightly due to the shaft 13 being mounted at a slight angle to the vertical. The sleeper is pressed against the underface of the rails, to be secured thereto by conventional means, by depressing a pedal 23 which through levers 24-27 causes a bearing surface 28 on the lever 26 to contact a ring 18 on the beam 17 to rock the beam about an axis 16. Fig. 6 shows a modified frame 10 and support 20 which enables a sleeper to be moved to a position along the longitudinal axis of the track during the lateral movement of the support. In a second embodiment, Fig. 7, the beam 17 is pivotable about a vertical axis relative to a cross-member 37 itself pivotable relative to the machine frame 33 about a horizontal axis. The beam is locked in the selected angular position relative to the frame by a lock 38 operated by rotation of a drum 47 to which it is connected. The sleeper support 20 is slidable along the beam 17 by means of a motor (not shown) driving an endless chain 42 fixed to the support. The plate 39 which receives the sleeper is hinged to the support 20 and urged in the direction f by a spring 41. A bearing plate 43, carrying rods 44 which slide in guides 45 mounted on the frame 33 and have secured to their upper ends ropes 46 wound on the drum 47, is located directly below the end of the beam when the latter has been pivoted through 90 degrees to lie on the longitudinal axis of the track. Rotation of the drum in the direction g causes the forward end of the beam to rise and unlocks the lock 38 which allows the member 37 on which the beam 17 is mounted to pivot with respect to the frame 33 so that the sleeper is pressed up against the rails 5, 6.
