Abstract

935,272. Jet deflectors for aircraft. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. May 18, 1962 [May 26, 1961], No. 19198/61. Class 4. A jet deflector 24 having a nozzle 25, is mounted by a pin 23 on a bracket 22 of a hoop member 17 fast with a jet engine exhaust duct 16 and extends into a shroud 26 which directs gases, which leak between the deflector and duct 16, into substantially the same dircetion as the gases leaving nozzle 25. The deflector 24 is moved to a vertical thrust position (shown in broken line) by a double-acting ram 33 mounted between hoop member 17 and deflector 24; the jet engine is mounted in the aircraft by two trunnions 20 on member 17 and a trunnion on the engine easing, Fig. 1 (not shown). Guide vanes 35 are provided in duct 16. Deflector 24 has a seal 31 which sealingly engages the shroud wall 30 when the deflector is retracted. The engine is a lift engine, the aircraft having additional engines for forward propulsion.
