Abstract

The invention comprises the compounds 2-ethylamino- 4-isopropylamino- 6-cyanomethylthio- 1,3,5-triazine; 2,4- bis-isopropylamino-6-cyanomethylthio-1,3,5-triazine; p 2,4-bis-ethylamino- 6-cyanomethylthio- 1,3,5-triazine and 2-isopropylamino-4-n-propylamino-6-cyanomethylthio-1,3,5-triazine. These and other cyanoalkylthio-triazines of the formula: <FORM:0934400/IV(a)/1> wherein "Alk" represents a C1-3 alkylene radical and R1 to R4 represent hydrogen or C1-5 alkyl radicals, are prepared by reacting a mercapto triazine of the formula: <FORM:0934400/IV(a)/2> with a compound of the formula Halogen-Alk-CN.ALSO:A composition for influencing plant growth as a herbicide, defoliant, soil sterilizer, fruit setting reducer or blossom delayer comprises a 6-cyanoalkylthio 1,3,5-triazine of the formula <FORM:0934400/VI/1> wherein "Alk" represents a C1-3 alkylene radical and R1 to R4 represent hydrogen or C1-5 alkyl radicals, together with a diluent. Diluents specified are water, alcohols, ketones, toluene, chloronaphthalene, diesel oil, xylene, kerosene, vegetable oils, clay, kaolin, kieselguhr, bentonite, talcum, calcium carbonate, silicon dioxide, wood charcoal and sawdust. Solutions or emulsions of the active ingredient may be mixed with or sprayed on to solid carrier materials and then dried. Also present may be adhesives such as glue, casein and alginic acid salts, and wetting agents, emulsifiers and stabilizers such as turkey red oil, salts of fatty acids, alkylenyl sulphonates, secondary alkyl sulphates, resinic acid salts, polyethylene ethers of fatty alcohols, fatty acids or fatty amines, quaternary ammonium compounds, lignin sulphonic acid, saponin, gelatine and/or casein.
