Abstract
Catalysts for oxidizing internal-combustion engine exhaust gases comprise copper promoted vanadium pentonide supported on a gamma alumina or silicon carbide base. The catalysts are prepared by impregnating the base materials, i.e. alumina or silicon carbide, with a mixture of vanadium citrate and copper citrate in such proportions that after conversion about a 9:1 ratio of vanadium pentonide to copper oxide will be obtained. The quantity of impregnating mixture is such as to result in a 10% deposit of catalytic material on the base material.
