Abstract
933,438. Spinning processes; twist tubes. KLINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd., R. S. GILCHRIST, and D. A. E. MATTINGLY. Aug. 19, 1959 [May 19, 1958], No. 15956/58. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). Yarn is false-twisted, e.g. as part of a continuous crimping process, by frictional engagement with rotating circular elements, e.g. discs, or coaxial sets thereof (with each set mounted on a single spindle) grouped therearound with parts of their peripheries overlapping one another. The axis of one element or set is movable to vary the overlap with coacting elements and its position may be adjusted at the limit of its normally spring-urged movement towards the yarn path. The discs, in the edge of each of which a circumferential groove seats a ring of resilient material such as rubber, synthetic rubber, polyurethane which will provide a frictional grip on the yarn, on each spindle may be equally spaced and the spacing on one spindle may be less than on two cooperating spindles. Multiple twisting heads for simultaneously false twisting several yarns may be driven in the same direction of rotation, or alternately in opposite directions, by a common endless belt serving all twisting stations. As shown in Fig. 1, yarns 83, 83a, withdrawn from spindles 85, 86, by winding mechanism 84, 89, embodying sensing devices as described in Specification 908,112, pass through a tensioning device 87, around toothed discs 88 rotated by magnetic means 97, e.g. as described in Specification 908,112, through an electromagnetically operated guillotine 99 responsive to detection of yarn breakage by sensing devices to cut the unbroken yarn and operate an alarm signal, around a guide 90, over a tongue thermally connected to a tube 80 through which hot oil flows (as described in Specifications 788,527, 864,078) through twisting heads 82, and are separately wound on bobbins 92, 94 (in which case the guillotine 99 is cut out of circuit and a warning light only is operative) or on a single bobbin (not shown). The twisting head shown in Figs. 2 and 4 comprises geardriven spindles 32, 37, 54, 60, 45 and 67 carrying overlapping friction discs 34, 39, 56, 62, 50 and 70 engaging yarns, as at 52, which follow zig-zag paths therebetween. The drive is obtained from a belt 26 with which a pulley 25 is brought into and out of adjustable engagement by swinging plates 10 and 11 about a pivot shaft 15 and may be held in the latter position by a detent member 7 on a spring-loaded pivoted arm 20. Spindles 45 and 67 are mounted in arms 47 and 69 which are swung about bearings 43 and 65 and connected to arms 106 and 107, the former pivoted at 75 to a spring-urged operating link 108 and urged theretowards by a spring 78. The inoperative position of spindles 45 and 67 is located by engagement of a notch 79 with the wall 80 of a guide 77. The overlaps of discs 50 and 70 (with discs 34, 39 and 56, 62) in the operative position are adjusted by a locking screw 81 engaging frame 11 and a screw 103 of a locking device 101 carried by arm 107 and engaged by an abutment 109 on link 108. Specification 885,473 also is referred to.
