Abstract

Cutting oils, e.g. consisting of light mineral oil, an organic emulsifier, examples being given, and an aliphatic alcohol coupling agent are protected against attack by mould and mildew by incorporating therein phenoxarsine compounds (see Group VI).ALSO:Paint compositions have incorporated therein phenoxarsine compounds (see Group VI) to protect against degradation and attack by mould and mildew. A specified paint comprises potassium tripolyphosphate, titanium dioxide, mica, calcium carbonate, clay, polypropylene glycol, methyl cellulose and a synthetic latex comprising a copolymer of ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate, acrylic acid and methacrylic acid.ALSO:Wood is protected from rot, decay and mildew by treating under vacuum with a 5% solution of 10-chlorophenoxarsine and 10,101-oxybisphenoxarsine in aromatic naphtha.ALSO:A plant growth control, fungicidal and microbicidal composition comprises as active ingredient 10-thiocyanatophenoxarsine, 10,101-thiobisphenoxarsines, 10,101-oxybisphenoxarsine, a 10-halophenoxarsine or a chlorine and/or lower alkyl substituted 10-halophenoxarsine as an active agent dispersed in or on a final divided solid, a surface-active dispersing agent, an aqueous emulsion, an adhesive, an ink, a cutting oil, a textile, a paper, an organic polymer, a paint or a wood, the active agent being present in an amount sufficient to inhibit the growth of plants and plant parts.
