Abstract
929,339. Motor wheels. MERRITT & CO. ENGINEERING Ltd. Sept. 30, 1960 [July 1. 1959], No. 22531/59. Class (79(3) [Also in Group XXIV] A motor wheel comprises an hydraulic or electric motor 11 attached by a flange 41 to a steerable stirrup 40 of, e.g. an industrial truck, the wheel having a tyre 10 supported on a rim 16 and is mounted for rotation upon a bearing 13 fitted on a carrier 14, 14A, 14B, the main part 14 of which is attached to the motor body. A cover plate 15 is secured to the rim 16 by nuts and bolts 17 and has a cylindrical portion 20 formed with internal teeth 21. The motor shaft 12 has a detachable extension 12A formed with a pair of eccentrics 25, 25A, disposed at 180 degrees to one another, and upon which are mounted, upon bearings 24, planets 22 and 22A which mesh at diametrally opposite arcuate portions with the internally toothed annulus 20. The planets are located upon a pair of screwed bolts 29 and a pair of nuts and bolts 29A, Fig. 1, upon which are mounted sleeves 26 upon needle roller bearings 28, the sleeves 26 being located in apertures 27 whose diameters exceeds those of the sleeves by twice the eccentricity of the portions 25, 25A. When the motor rotates, the planets gyrate about the axis of the motor, their axes moving in a circular path of radius equal to the eccentricity of the portions 25, 25A, and, being in mesh with the annulus, after each revolution of the motor, the annulus will have rotated by an amount corresponding to the difference in the number of annulus teeth and the number of planet teeth, giving a reduction ratio. The planets being on eccentrics disposed at 180 degrees, a dynamic balance is obtained.
