A toenail protector comprises a tubular member 13 having a longitudinal substantially straight slit or slot 12 so that it can be placed around lateral edges of the nail. An applicator for the protector comprises a tube 15, cut away at one end to form a seat 14 for the protector, and a plunger 16 which is projected in the tube against a spring 19 to push the protector from the seat under the lateral edge of the toenail.
