Abstract
927,720. Conveying by buoyancy; shoots. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. Feb. 6, 1961 [April 14, 1960], No. 13428/60. Classes 78 (1) and 78 (2). [Also in Group XIII] Articles such as bottles B, Fig. 1, sliding by gravity down a tube 3 are maintained in spaced relationship from the tube by jets of air directed through radial passages 9 in the walls of the tube 3. The air may be heated for drying articles coated with wet ink or varnish &c. The tube 3 is interchangeably supported above a channel 14, Fig. 2, to which the air is supplied through a pipe 18 having a main outlet 19 and subsidiary outlets 23. Air escapes from the tube 3 through a longitudinal slot 11. In a modification the tube 3, Fig. 3, may be vertical and adapted to receive plastic jars J for drying by hot air supplied from a jacket 14 or longitudinal channels (not shown) disposed over the holes 9. The air may be directed upwardly to control the rate of descent of the jars. Stop means 25 may be provided to support a jar at the exit end and is arranged to be released photoelectrically by entry of a following jar.
