Abstract

927,700. Change-speed control. REGIE NATIONALE DES USINES RENAULT. Feb. 16, 1960 [March 18, 1959], No. 5489/60. Class 80 (2). In an electromagnetically operated vehicle change-speed gear the switch lever 18 is controlled by a vehicle-driven centrifugal governor 3 and a spring 9 whose loading is varied by the throttle pedal 27, and has an associated solenoid 23 which is energized when the higher of two gears is engaged, thus augmenting the effect of the governor to ensure that downshift occurs at a lower speed than upshift. The solenoid current is preferably controllable by avariable resistance 25. The solenoid may be cut out by a switch 24 opened by a kick-down movement of pedal 27. In a modification. Fig. 2 (not shown), the arm 18 is omitted, contact arm 15 being connected directly to governor collar 20 and incorporated in a spring-loaded pivoted mounting. Specification 801,901 is referred to.
