In a process for the preparation of 2-b -methoxyethylpyridine, a pyridine derivative of the formula <FORM:0927613/IV(a)/1> (wherein R1 and R2 may be the same or different and represent a hydrogen atom, a branched or unbranched alkyl radical of up to 12 carbon atoms, a cycloalkyl or aralkyl radical or the group R1R2N may represent a saturated heterocyclic ring) is heated with methanol, preferably in the presence of a basic or acidic catalyst.
