927,427. Lubricators. H. R. SOPP, and R. NEYER. March 27, 1962 [March 29, 1961; Dec. 6, 1961; Feb. 13, 1962], No. 11583/62. Class 12 (3). In the lubrication of wheel flanges of rail vehicles, solid lubricant is applied thereto in conjunction with the application of the brake. The solid lubricant is retained in a tapered recess 6 in a brake-shoe 5 and may have been introduced in fluid or paste form and subsequently hardened, or may have been a preformed solid lubricant fixed in position by adhesive or bolts. During braking, the shoe 5 presses against a tread 2 of the wheel and the lubricant 7 presses against the flange 4. Molybdenum disulphide and a hardener may be included in the lubricant. The adhesive, or putty, may also serve to insulate the lubricant, or an insulated carrier may be provided, and soft aluminium pegs may be used to fix the lubricant to a face of the brake-shoe. Instead of being carried by the brake-shoe, the lubricant could be retained in a carrier mounted on a brake-shoe holder and may be spring-urged towards the wheel-axle.
