Abstract

927,410. Automatic exchange systems. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 27, 1961 [Jan. 23, 1961], No. 2619/61. Class 40 (4). In an arrangement for testing the availability of a common apparatus, each equipment of a plurality associated with the apparatus is provided with a capacitor which (when the equipment requires the use of the apparatus) is periodically charged and then discharged through a circuit comprising a test relay shunted by similar test relays in each of the other equipments, the arrangement being that if the common apparatus is busy the greater part of each discharge is through the shunt circuit, whereas when it becomes free the discharge is then substantially through the associated relay so that the latter is operated and hence seizes the common apparatus. The invention is applied to the case where a plurality of registers require access to a control circuit common to a number of selectors. When a register (Fig. 1a) requires the use of the control circuit (Fig. 2), a contact ax therein operates to complete a self-interrupting circuit for the slow-operate slow-release relay AG and capacitor AC2 is thus periodically connected to a test relay AT, which is thereby operated and locks to negative battery in the control circuit if the latter is idle. However, if another register is already connected up, i.e. test relay BT is up, capacitor AC2 discharges through the low resistance holding winding II of BT and AT remains down until the control circuit is free. If contact z is open then none of the registers can gain access to the control circuit.
