A collapsible shelter comprising an inverted U-frame la to be secured to a wall W, inverted U-frames 1 pivoted thereto at 2 and a flexible covering 6 is counterbalanced by weights 11 connected to the lowest frame by cords 9 to assist in returning the shelter to a collapsed position against the wall. In a modification, the frames are pivoted on separate axes. In another construction, the weights are replaced by coil springs which may operate with an over-centre action.
