Abstract

926,437. Electromagnetic switches; fluid actuation of switches. R. F. OXLEY. March 2, 1961 [March 7, 1960], No. 8048/60. Class 38 (5). [Also in Groups XXVI, XXIX and XXXV] Stepped rotary motion of output shaft 34, used to drive a selector switch, is produced from reciprocating armature 19 by means of an hydraulic ratchet device having valves 57, 62 controlled from control box 13. Energizing coil 10 attracts armature 19 which moves upwards and compresses fluid in cylinder 29 and reduces the pressure of fluid in cylinder 32 causing vanes 38 to move in cylinders 39 and rotate disc 37 until a limit switch 36 opens. De-energization of the coil 10 allows the armature to fall under the action of spring 30 causing disc 37 to rotate in the opposite direction until another limit switch operates to repeat the cycle. Output shaft 34 is driven by disc 37 when clutch plate 40 is moved upwards by fluid pressure applied via valves 57, 62. The direction of output motion may be selected by controlling valves 57, 62 from control box 13.
